Signs of the Times

[Rev. Norman D. Goehring, in the Herald, Boston, Massachusetts]

"Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." Long ago, humble shepherds listened entranced to this message of the angelic herald, according to the familiar story. Whenever another Christmastide brings the same message to our ears, it never fails to entrance us and to stir our hearts. We simply cannot outgrow the appeal of the Christmas story, no matter how repeatedly we hear it—and we do not want to. It means too much to us. ...

Is it not high time for those of us who have traveled the way to Bethlehem to speak forth more boldly with our message of good tidings? Do not the times demand that we endeavor, with all the power within us, to turn the thoughts and lives of men to Him who is able to bring the vast riches of love, hope, courage, and faith to all men? Are we not called upon to emphasize and to stress those things of lasting worth which can never be taken from us?
