I have every reason to be grateful for Christian Science; in fact, I cannot conceive of what my life would be without the peace and harmony it has brought to me. Six years ago my thought was very material, and my greatest pleasure seemed to be in entertaining a crowd of people. At this time I was afflicted with arthritis most severely. I could scarcely stand, and the pain in one knee was excruciating. All that summer I was a slave to heat treatments and massage, without any apparent relief. The doctors said that I should always have to be on a strict diet and have constant treatment, and I probably should have to spend the rest of my life in a wheel chair, even if I could leave my bed. As I pondered over this sad news, it appeared too terrible to bear—that this had come to me, who had always been so active and had traveled so much. Always I had loved God and attended church, but material affairs had seemed very much more important to me. I loved what I thought was a good time.

About this time, a friend, who had been a Christian Scientist for many years, gave me a copy of Science and Health. I read and read, then I slept, and when I awoke in the morning the arthritis was gone. The Word of Truth had indeed been "sharper than any twoedged sword"! Naturally, I was dumfounded. I read the textbook almost constantly, and started to attend the Christian Science church, also to read daily the Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. This made me much happier. In a few days I found that I had been healed of the desire to smoke cigarettes, which I had done for years, but not excessively. Another healing which came soon afterward was of a finger which was crushed in the door of a car.

During these years I have held my thoughts to a more spiritual view, and I am gaining my freedom from materiality. Now my chief joy is in studying the Lesson-Sermons, reading the periodicals, and attending church. Words alone can never express my gratitude to God for His loving care and mercies, nor my heartfelt thanks to our revered Leader, who by her writings had led me into the paths of harmony and peace. I am also sincerely grateful to be a member of The Mother Church.
