Early in the year 1920, on account of the illness of a member of my family, it became necessary for me to spend a week at home to assist in caring for her. At this time Christian Science treatment was begun for her, and as I sat at her bedside I began to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Within a very short time I discovered that I had lost all desire to smoke, and that frequent attacks of acute indigestion, which many times had been relieved only by hypodermic injections, had disappeared.
Soon I began to attend the church services and to study the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly. In a few years the tobacco-chewing habit left me, for which I am indeed grateful, as I had chewed since I was a small boy. I had always believed that if I did not have a strong cup of coffee three times a day I should suffer from headaches. But all desire for coffee left me several years ago and with it went the headaches, too. Corns, bunions, and callous places on my feet have disappeared. Each winter my hands chapped severely, which condition has also been healed. All these healings occurred through reading the textbook, and after I had passed the age of seventy years.
Recently I suffered terribly for some time with a lame back and could not lie down. Through the loving work of a Christian Science practitioner the pain left, and also the fear of lying down. Since that healing I have painted a large concrete porch floor and steps.
