"Eternal Truth is changing the universe"
At all times the student of Christian Science is called upon to stand firm, with armor on, to look neither to the right nor to the left, but straight ahead and up to God, the source of all being, the only cause of existence. We cannot afford to deviate from this course, to temporize with, or in the slightest degree yield to, the varied arguments of the carnal or fleshly mind attempting to force their suggestions upon human consciousness. To mortal sense the beliefs of evil and its effects appear legionary, but the Christian Scientist sees them for what they are, and knows that nothing can be gained by gazing upon the objects of material sense testimony, or by listening to the arguments advanced in support of the suppositional activity of evil.
By way of contrast, let us turn our thought in the opposite direction and meditate upon the words of Paul, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." Does not this point to the necessity for turning thought away from the contemplation of materiality with its changing concepts and falsities, since God, good, cannot be found there? He cannot be found there today any more than He was to be found in the "wind," the "earthquake," and the "fire," which passed before Elijah, who with fixed purpose refused to accept as coming from God the discord which the eye beheld and the ear heard. Instead, he looked straight ahead and up to God, until through spiritual sense he heard the "still small voice" of Truth, which guided him and pointed the way for him to solve his problem.
We are living in an age of rapidly changing concepts and values. Approved standards of living and business conduct are being torn asunder. So revolutionary in its nature and deceptive in appearance is this change that many of us, owing to human speculation, may lose much of its true spiritual import and significance. On page 255 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says that "eternal Truth is changing the universe;" and in Ezekiel it is written, "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him." Because of the seeming activity of evil, the thought as yet unillumined by the teachings of Christian Science is apt to believe that evil has a part in this overturning, and that its effects cannot be avoided. But the standpoint of the student of Christian Science is spiritual. He knows that there is only one real activity, the activity of good, and he also knows that a great change or adjustment is taking place in human consciousness in accordance with divine law, which always operates intelligently for good, and that "none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?"
