With a heart full of gratitude I write this testimony
With a heart full of gratitude I write this testimony. I did not take up Christian Science to be healed of sickness, but because I recognized it to be the pure Christ-teaching. Ever since childhood I have had a desire for the spiritual truth and have known that God is guiding and protecting me, and is with me always. In 1910 I was in Holland with my parents and there I met my friend and former tutoress, who told me about Christian Science. When I had listened very thoughtfully I told her that this was what I had always believed, so I bought Science and Health. Shortly afterward I went to an English boarding school. There I tried to put into practice what I had learned of Christian Science, and so I had a happy time and felt quite at home, though I was surrounded by foreigners; and it was the first time I had been far from home.
Christian Science has always been a great help to me, and was especially so in the following case. I was struggling with the trouble called "malaria tropica" in a severe form. One night when the fever was very high, all became dark before my eyes and I collapsed, but the words, "There is no death, God is my Life," roused me out of this nightmare. When the fear was conquered, recovery was very quick. I learned much from this experience, including the fact that it was fear that had hindered my recovery.
Christian Science proved again to be my help in need when, in one year, I lost my mother, my husband, and my home; and I could very soon realize that there is no separation. Also, through the loss of material things I have won a precious treasure of spiritual things. I am thankful for the privilege of serving the Cause as Second Reader in a Christian Science Society and as a member of a distribution committee. I am so grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who in her textbook has revealed God as the ever loving Father-Mother, who always meets every human need.—(Mrs.) Elisabeth Eleonore Ament, Bandoeng, Java, Netherlands India.
