I consider it a privilege as well as duty to express as best I may my gratitude for the numerous healings, both mental and physical, for which I am indebted to Christian Science. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity of enjoying the benefits to be derived from attending the Christian Science Sunday School, and after reaching the age of twenty to have always been in the vicinity of a Christian Science church.
When I was about eleven years of age I had a rupture. My family consulted many medical authorities in the hope of finding permanent relief for me, but it seemed as if I were always to be thus handicapped. About two years later a so-called epidemic of scarlet fever found me one of its early victims. The health authorities were called in, and in compliance with civic laws we were quarantined for five weeks. For three or four years previous to this time we had frequently attended the Christian Science church in our city, but until this time we had lacked sufficient faith to place ourselves entirely under its care. But we had undoubtedly glimpsed a ray of the truth, for the help of a Christian Science practitioner was asked for and the aid lovingly given. After three treatments I was not only free from scarlet fever, but all evidence of the rupture had disappeared, and I have never been bothered by it since.
A few years later we left our home in the Middle West to reside in the East. The radical change in climate seemed to have ill effects on the entire family, especially on my younger brother. Medical advice was that we should be forced to return to a drier climate, or my brother, who had been taken with inflammatory rheumatism, would pass on. We were total strangers except to one relative, who was not interested in Mrs. Eddy's teachings; but we soon got in touch with a local practitioner, who proved effectively and in a short time that God's protection is not measured by latitude or longitude, but is the harmonious atmosphere of Love in which we all live.
