Among the Churches

Current Notes

Portage, Wisconsin (First Church).—The imposing lannonstone edifice being erected on the corner of West Wisconsin and West Pleasant Streets, which is to be the new home for worship of First Church of Christ, Scientist, is nearing completion, and will be ready for occupancy December 10. The structure is absolutely unique in its symmetrical and appropriate design, a work of beauty, color and art, and can take a place in the front ranks of the city's houses of worship.—Register Democrat.

Hamburg, New York (First Church).—Dedication of the new Christian Science church in Hamburg took place on Sunday, September 17, at services held in the morning, afternoon, and evening. A history of the church was read at the services.

The building, which stands on the northeast corner of Hawkins and Pleasant Avenues, is twenty-nine by fifty-two feet, of colonial architecture, constructed of English bond brick with white trim. Wrought iron railings on the steps, which are approached by a terrace, and ivy already growing upon the brick walls, carry out the southern colonial effect. Off the foyer there is a Reading Room on one side, and stairs open into the auditorium. The windows are amethyst glass, and the walls are done in gray with faint pink blush shade; and the gray and pink motif is carried out in the decorations.
