Studying Christian Science
[Written Especially for Young People]
While attending college a student suddenly found that the study of Christian Science was becoming very difficult. Truths which before her entrance into college activities had been easily understood seemed to her complicated and contradictory. For a time it appeared as if it were impossible for her to receive any enlightenment or help from the Bible or the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." An argumentative state of thought constantly interfered with her study of these text-books, and at every turn doubt assailed her. However, having had earlier proof of the healing power of Christian Science, she felt certain that it was the truth of Being; and so she persisted in a rather strained endeavor to understand what she read.
Finally, one evening, being in need of healing, she again took up her study. As she was about to open her books, these questions came to her thought: What is it that understands the truth? Have you a mind of your own? Do you believe that intelligence is in brain? At once she realized that since God is the only Mind it is primarily Mind that knows and understands. She as His child could reflect only divine Mind. Then it became clear to her that she had been believing that she had a mind of her own, independent of God, with which she thought and understood. She knew then that if she were to have an understanding of Christian Science she must receive it of God. She must therefore ask of God.
Humbly she opened her books and prayed God to reveal the truth. Calmly she began to read. Gone were the arguments and the struggle of previous occasions. Peacefully and naturally the light of understanding came to her, and she was healed. The truth of Being became clear and logical to her, as it had previously been.
