Right Progress

Having recently read in our periodicals reports of the progress made by the Christian Science movement during the past year, may we not profitably turn in retrospect to the beginnings of that movement? Shall we not do well to recall that less than sixty years ago, modestly housed in Lynn, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, toiled, in sacrifice and privation, that she might give to pain-racked and sin-burdened humanity her glorious proclamation of deliverance and salvation?

When Mrs. Eddy first gave our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," to the world, there was no Christian Science church organization, no church edifice, no Publishing House. There were none, indeed, of the varied Christian Science church activities which we enjoy today, and by which the world has been so greatly benefited. There was, nevertheless, spiritual healing of sickness and sin, which was successfully practiced by our Leader and by her early students. And it was upon this foundation of Christ-healing that our movement was built. It is upon this sure, unchanging foundation that our movement stands today, and will continue to stand.

Today, rising upon foundations of concrete, there is a beautiful building which, when finished, will provide adequate housing for The Christian Science Publishing Society. The foresight and courage which impelled our Directors to launch this important project in a time of seeming business depression are being supported by the practical response of grateful Christian Scientists throughout the world. We look forward expectantly to its completion within the designated time, confidently believing that, like the original Mother Church and the Extension, it will be fully paid for when finished.
