"It is more blessed to give than to receive," and the desire...
"It is more blessed to give than to receive," and the desire to give prompts me to add my testimony of healing, that it may bring others confidence and assurance and that some weary one may know that the very disease he may have labored with long and seemingly in vain can be healed by Christian Science.
It is now more than twenty years since I first became interested in Christian Science. I was sickly from birth, the first trouble being with my stomach. Food had to be digested before it was given to me, and the steady services of two persons were required to care for me day and night until I was nineteen months old. At the age of seven months I became paralyzed, and I lay helpless until the age of nineteen months. When four years old I contracted scarlet fever and was left with kidney trouble, which developed into a serious case of uræmic poisoning. Many times and for many years I would be in an unconscious condition for weeks at a time, under medical care. Every material aid was given, but no relief or healing was received. I had many operations, and at the age of twenty-two had the final capital operation from which the doctors said I should not recover until after middle age.
I was then almost living on opiates, and Christian Science came to me just in time to save me from being a slave to the drug habit. I was healed in Christian Science, but not quickly, for which I have later been most grateful, because it has been through the slow healings that I have received the greatest understanding. It was after many weary years, and exactly in the proportion that I was able to lay off or discard wrong thoughts and replace them with right or true thoughts, that I received my healing, which has been complete and permanent. It has now been over fourteen years since that condition has troubled me, and I think of it only when someone else mentions it to me; and then I realize how grateful I am.
