[Original testimony in German]
In March, 1922, my attention was drawn to Christian Science...
In March, 1922, my attention was drawn to Christian Science by a man in Baltimore, who sent me a Herold. I read it through several times, and its contents pleased me very much. I wrote and thanked him for it. Thereupon he sent me a copy of Der Herold every month for several years. In these Herolds I read frequently of a book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Through the reading of the Herolds I wanted more and more to have this book, and in 1925 the same gentleman sent me this beautiful book as a gift. It was a wonderful experience for me to learn of the ever-presence of God and His love and goodness. Shortly afterward, he also sent me a copy of the Christian Science Quarterly. Supplied with Science and Health, the Christian Science Quarterly, and the Bible, I was now able to study the Lesson-Sermons daily. Through this study I was cured of various difficulties, such as headache, rheumatism, fear, excitement, and lack.
Through a newspaper my attention was drawn to the Christian Science Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings, which I then began to attend. What I heard there convinced me of the truth of the teachings of Christian Science, and the simplicity of the reading and the singing in the services made a deep impression upon me. Later I visited the Christian Science Reading Room, and there read the other writings of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Through attendance at the Wednesday evening meetings I have heard of many wonderful healings of all kinds of disease, which has given me great trust in God, divine Principle.
As I had been deaf in the left ear for many years, I had the greatest longing to hear again; and one day as I turned to the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health, I read (p. 1): "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires." One evening I was reading in a Herold, and all at once I heard with my left ear as well as with my right, though I had not done any specific work for this condition. The trouble has never returned.
