In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 149, 150) Mrs. Eddy says, "To-day there is hardly a city, village, or hamlet, in which are not to be found living witnesses and monuments to the virtue and power of Truth, as applied through this Christian system of healing disease." Nearly fourteen years ago, while I was living in a small mining camp, this healing truth was presented to me as a cure for all ills.

I had been suffering from a sudden attack of heart trouble, which left me helpless. My condition was such that the doctors were puzzled about what to do, as all medicines had gone against me. For about a week I lay in bed, not able to eat more than a spoonful of food at a time, and even that caused a great deal of disturbance.

This was during the influenza epidemic, and the doctors were afraid to have me enter the hospital as they said it would be sudden death if I had even a light attack of the malady. After several weeks a room was available, but two days before I was to leave for the hospital a friend sent Science and Health to me. I read part of the chapter on Prayer, and was instantly healed. I can never express enough gratitude to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for rediscovering this new-old truth that makes men free. So powerful was this truth that it also instantly healed my two-year-old son of constipation. We have since radically relied on Christian Science for freedom from discord of every kind, mental, physical, and financial; and when persistently applied this truth has never failed.

I should also like to tell of a complete healing of spinal meningitis which my son experienced six years ago. He was suddenly taken ill one night, and although the practitioner worked faithfully for him he gradually grew worse. It seemed necessary to change practitioners. This we did, and after several weeks of untiring prayer, a change for the better was our reward. Error then tried to say that the child could not walk, but this lie was met and mastered; and today he is a robust, healthy child, taking part in all kinds of athletic sports.

We are grateful for all that Christian Science stands for, and are striving to let that Mind be in us "which was also in Christ Jesus." I am grateful for the literature, for the lectures, and for membership in The Mother Church.
