Baselessness of Evil
The method of arriving at prices on products in a certain industry has afforded an illustration that has proved very helpful to the writer. The price structure of these products centers around the word "base." Points at which shipments originate are known as basing points. The price at the point of origin is called the base price, to which is added the carload freight, thus giving a delivered base price. From the above it is evident that one could not arrive at a net delivered price without first having a basing point. Furthermore, it is possible for anyone with an understanding of this method to work out a net delivered price to any destination desired.
In Christian Science God is our basing point, and we are in reality ideas of God, infinite Mind, forever reflecting this Mind. Mrs. Eddy says, "When understanding changes the standpoints of life and intelligence from a material to a spiritual basis, we shall gain the reality of Life, the control of Soul over sense, and we shall perceive Christianity, or Truth, in its divine Principle" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 322). Evil, or error, has no basing point. "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Error cannot give us a delivered manifestation unless we accept it as having a basis from which to operate—as really existing; as having, in other words, been created by God.
The trouble today is that mankind is basing too much on materiality. Mrs. Eddy clearly states, "There are not two bases of being, matter and mind, but one alone,—Mind" (Science and Health, p. 279). Spiritual man is the reflection of God. It must follow, then, that the man of God's creating expresses only Godlike qualities.
