Stretching Forth the Hand

What a tender, loving thing it is for an individual to stretch forth his hand to help his fellow man! At this time, when many are fearful because of financial conditions and many in want because of unemployment, a hand outstretched to help is indeed a blessing.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, stretched out her helping hand to humanity and gave the Science of true being to the world in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and in her other writings. Those who study this Science gain a knowledge of God and of man made in His image, and are better able to give help to others because of a clearer understanding of the divine laws which govern the universe.

A woman in listening to a Christian Science lecture learned that God is not a withholder, and that man, made in the image of God, could not be a withholder. Realizing that the hand outstretched to help was always open to receive and that the closed hand could not receive, she began to give of her small store; and her supply steadily increased. She gave a smile, a kind word of encouragement, and a cheerful greeting whenever she could. She passed on her periodicals, including her copies of The Christian Science Monitor, where they would do the most good. She set aside part of her jellies to give away, shared her flower cuttings and vegetables, and regularly took outgrown clothing to a home for children. As her supply increased, she gave more of her time and money to various activities connected with the Cause of Christian Science. And her income has been established upon a firm foundation.
