With my heart overflowing with gratitude, I wish to express my thankfulness to God for the beautiful healing I had through Christian Science in April, 1912. I had been an invalid for several years with chronic colitis, which the doctors pronounced incurable. They had tried all in their power to heal me, but as I made no progress a London physician was called in. He ordered me to a nursing home, where he performed two serious operations. When I left there after six weeks of intense suffering I was no better; in fact, rather worse. I remained in a very frail condition and on a very strict diet, all my food having to be put through a sieve. I was always carried up and down stairs, and had to stay in bed for weeks together.

Various other treatments were resorted to with no better results, and I had given up all hope of being any better when Christian Science was brought to me by a sister who had attended a Sunday service. After hearing the words of help and comfort read from the Bible and from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, she felt convinced that it would heal me. She took me in a bath chair to the Reading Room and we borrowed the textbook, which I studied and pondered continually for two days. On the third morning I was absolutely healed, able to rise, dress myself, and walk downstairs to breakfast, to my own joy and that of those around me; and from that time I was able to eat anything that was set before me. Since that happy day God has been my only physician and I have kept well and strong. Whereas up to then I had been only a care and anxiety, I was able to be a help and comfort, not only to those in my own home, but also to those I was now able to come in contact with in the outer world.

In 1913 I joined the Christian Science Society where I first heard the good news, and have become an active member in its various activities. I have shared in the joy of seeing the society become a church. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction from a loyal teacher. I send this testimony with a heart full of love, and hope it may help those who are in need of deliverance from bondage, as I was. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."—(Miss) Beatrice Maude Thirkell, Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, England.
