Morning Tribune
A contributor quotes Scripture as a prelude to an attack upon Christian Science. He says that Christian Scientists put Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on an equal with Jesus, that a Christian Science lecturer maligned and ascribed ignorance to Christ Jesus by saying that Jesus knew nothing about the modern theories of germs. The contributor also maintains that Jesus recognized the reality of sin, sickness, and death.
To claim that a Christian Science lecturer maligned Jesus by affirming he knew nothing about the modern theories of germs is ridiculous, for theories are speculative and theoretical. What Jesus knew were spiritual facts. He knew that there is a spiritual law of God, which, when understood and Christianly applied, is applicable for every human need.
Had Jesus believed in the reality of sin, sickness, and death, he would have had no dominion over them. Instead of recognizing them as real, he denied them. Jesus' remedy for every human need was the Christ, Truth. It is a fact that the four Gospels bear overwhelming evidence that the sick received the same attention from Jesus as was given to the sinner. Christian Scientists worship the one infinite God. They adore and reverence His Son, Christ Jesus; and they love Mrs. Eddy because she has done so much for them. Christian Science has lifted countless thousands from beds of mental anguish and physical suffering, has brought many from the brink of the grave and healed them; and in so doing has brought the living Christ so near that they have felt its very presence. It is divinely natural that they should love the one who had made their healing possible.
