I have great pleasure in giving the following testimony, and do so in the hope that anyone who may be placed in a similar position may benefit from my experience.
In November, 1927, I consulted a doctor, as I had not been well for about eighteen months. The doctor examined me, gave me a few tablets, and told me to come again when they were gone. At the second interview, after examining me again, he said he did not like the symptoms and would like me to be examined by another physician. The other physician came and gave me a thorough examination the following day. He confirmed the first doctor's opinion and said an operation was necessary, but as it was so serious a one he would not undertake it himself. He advised me to see an eminent London specialist at once, and arranged for an appointment. After a extensive examination the specialist, one of the most expert men in the country, said that what the doctors had told me was perfectly true; that I had a tumor in the stomach as large as his two fists. It would mean an immediate operation and a serious one, and he was unable to give any opinion as to the result.
Whilst I was waiting for a vacant bed in a London hospital, Christian Science was brought to my notice for the first time. A friend who was interested in it called to see me and told me there was no need of an operation if I would take up Christian Science, and he gave me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy to read. After reading this book through, I thought I should like to know more of the person who wrote it.
