Authorized Methods
The religion founded by Moses was primitive, but it prospered so long as it advanced from the fundamentals which he taught. Christianity was divinely inspired in full measure, and it prospered so long as the followers of Christ Jesus adhered to what he taught. Christian Science is the fulfillment of original Christianity; it is the Paraclete which Christ Jesus foresaw and promised. Thus, it gives the complete statement of the scientific method of demonstrating original Christianity. Christian Science, too, was divinely inspired. So the intelligent conclusion from these premises is that Christian Science will prosper so long as the followers of Mary Baker Eddy adhere to what she taught.
Christian Science has an immeasurable advantage in having been both discerned and recorded by its Discoverer and Founder. Students who can read the language in which she wrote have certain advantages, and so do those who have become acquainted with her individual use of certain words. Yet no one who has not attained the same altitude of thought can fully comprehend what an inspired person has spoken or written.
Christian Science has another immeasurable advantage in having authorized methods for its preservation and propagation, which authorized modes of action either were chosen by Mrs. Eddy herself or have been developed in full accord with her carefully formulated plan. This advantage is a product of Mrs. Eddy's discernment and experience, foresight and observation, during the more than forty years in which she was personally engaged in establishing the Christian Science movement and consummated its organization.
