At a time when I was very much in need of relief...
At a time when I was very much in need of relief from physical suffering, caused by severe burns from flames about my face and head, right hand, and arm, I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help and encouragement to know the truth about the situation. This was natural, for I have relied solely upon Christian Science for aid since I was a child of eight years. I was assured that work would be done, and was told that God's man is immutable. This was the main thought that impressed me in my conversation with the practitioner; and I pondered the word "immutable" to glean from it all of its meaning. This assurance was what I most needed, for the fear had crept in that my face would be disfigured as a result of the burns. While work was being done for me I read from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and also read helpful articles in current Christian Science literature. In less than half an hour the pain from which I had been suffering ceased, never again to return.
Within two weeks the blisters on my hand and wrist disappeared, and the burns on my face and head were so far removed that I was able to return to my active office duties. In a very short time every mark or manifestation of accident had disappeared. I am grateful for this added proof of God's ever present, protecting power through this severe testing time.
Because of my enforced stay at home for two weeks during this healing, and because of the very awkward blisters which were on my hand during most of the time, I was unable to do physical work of any kind; but this proved to be one of God's opportunities. I read from Mrs. Eddy's writings and the Christian Science periodicals for hours at a time, and endeavored to absorb all of the helpful truths given to me by the practitioner, with whom I was in daily communication. I think of those two weeks as among the happiest and most fruitful of my experience. There was much helpful love expressed from many unexpected sources.
