It was over twenty-five years ago that I first heard of Christian Science. At that time my wife was seriously ill, suffering from neurasthenia and from kidney and stomach troubles. This was the verdict of the physicians who were treating her. Several specialists were called in, but no relief was afforded the patient, and it was then recommended that we place her in an institution, but to this I most strenuously objected. An opportunity, however, presented itself which enabled us to place her in a private sanitarium under strict surveillance for several months. This proved of no benefit to the patient; on the contrary she was much more enervated; indeed, very weak. It was at this crucial moment that Christian Science was presented to us by a friend. We knew nothing about it; but in our extremity we were willing to try anything that promised relief. A Christian Science practitioner was immediately consulted, and after three months' treatment my wife was entirely healed, and has since enjoyed the best of health.
Since the advent of Christian Science in our home our family has been blessed bountifully. I have had many beautiful healings, some of which I shall mention, namely, healing of erysipelas, colds, and a growth on the vertebra, as well as help in business and financial conditions.
I particularly desire to mention the healing power of Truth in a recent business transaction. I had been connected with a large manufacturing company. At the time I took over the management conditions were quite precarious: due to faulty construction the plant could not continue operating, and there were financial difficulties as well. Christian Science treatment was asked for and unfolded the necessary steps to be taken, resulting in the erection of a new plant on another site; and after several years of operation we were enabled to pay off all the old obligations. After this glorious proof of God's guidance and protecting care mortal mind tried to tempt us to believe that the truth could be reversed, but the lie was not yielded to in spite of all that sense-testimony argued, such as unfair competition, sharp business practice on the part of competitors, and the losing of money.
