For over five years I have been a regular reader of The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel, and for over four years have studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I have had so many wonderful demonstrations of God's love, power, and mercy that I want the whole world to know of them. For sixty-four years, though a Bible student, I did not recognize God as Spirit, or that man was made in His image and likeness, and that He "healeth all thy diseases." My first knowledge of Christian Science came through the relief our eldest daughter received when she was attacked with hemorrhage of the heart, the worst in her experience, and after she had asked a friend for help, which was lovingly given.
In September, 1924, I had such a severe pain in my head that I felt my sanity was threatened. I felt that a doctor could do nothing for me, that God alone could help me. My daughter's experience gave me the faith I needed. I did not know how to get God's help, but I knew my daughter's friend could get the help I was needing, so I went to her. The first treatment helped me some, but I was still suffering greatly when she handed me Science and Health and told me to read in it. I did not think I possibly could; but when she said it would help me, I tried. Almost immediately I heard and felt something snap in the back of my head, three times; and the conviction came to me right then that my sanity was assured, although it was about three weeks, with much work on our friend's part, before the pain entirely left me.
The next experience came April 25, 1926, when a horse fell on my husband's right shoulder. His chest was badly bruised, his collar bone was thrown out of joint at both ends, the cords of his neck were badly strained, and he felt that two or three ribs were broken or at least cracked. Again our friend was called on for help, which she very lovingly gave. The injured parts did not swell or become discolored, and the third day the collar bone went back into place. My husband lost but one day's work on account of the accident; in a month he was doing as much work as ever, and has done so ever since.
