When I was a very young girl I heard of Christian Science,...
When I was a very young girl I heard of Christian Science, but I was satisfied with the church to which I then belonged. After about ten years I became interested in this Science, not because I needed a physical healing but because the friends who were Christian Scientists were so happy and free. I knew they had something I did not have, so through mere curiosity I began reading the textbook, "Science and Health with key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. However, I remember very distinctly how I reasoned with myself about God before I procured the textbook. After reading Science and Health I knew I had found God. Then I began reading the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. At first I could get nothing out of them; but there was an effect, and it was always that I felt very happy and harmonious, I could not remember even a line. with prayer and an earnest desire, the truth began to unfold.
My gratitude is beyond words for what Christian Science has brought into my life. From being a very discontented mortal everything has been reversed. Jesus said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I have proved this truth many times, both in the healing of sin and in the healing of sickness.
The regenerated consciousness stands out more than any physical healing; and although I did not notice any special physical healing for several months after beginning the study of Christian Science, I have since been instantaneously healed of a sprained ankle, of pneumonia, ptomaine poisoning, severe backache which had lasted for three years, and many minor ailments. Also, through the earnest application of the truth, I have been healed of great sorrow by the passing on of my whole family within a period of thirty days.
I am grateful for the demonstrable understanding that Mrs. Eddy promises us through strict adherence to divine Principle and its law. I am so grateful for all the helps she gives us in her writings, also for the periodicals, especially for The Christian Science Monitor.
I am grateful for class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for the experience of teaching in the Sunday school, and for the many blessings that have come to me through my little knowledge of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Ida W. Jones, Oilton, Oklahoma.
