Christian Science came to me when my need was urgent
Christian Science came to me when my need was urgent. I had been under the regular care of a physician in a large city, and while I was under great mental strain and unable to get my freedom he was suddenly called East. A Christian Science friend finally came to visit me and took me to her apartment, but the following morning so much fear was manifested that another physician was called. He diagnosed the disease as pellagra, made immediate arrangements to take me to a sanitarium, and gave me something to soothe my nerves. But the next day when the ambulance came I declined to go, and when I arose from my lethargy a Christian Science practitioner who lived in the same apartment visited me and placed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in my hands. The lines were very much blurred at first, but I did not have far to read to know that this truth was meant for me ; and by relying on its teachings I was able two months later to take the place of a secretary, away on vacation, in a large department store.
This same disease had manifested itself twelve years before when I was passing through a serious trouble. I had been examined by a number of physicians and then taken to two specialists, who finally sent me home, where I spent a year regaining my health.
I am so grateful for this healing, for now I know I always have the truth with me wherever I go. I am also grateful for all the activities of this growing movement, and for the joy and peace which are mine through the unfoldment of this beautiful study; grateful for the kindness of friends and practitioners who so helpfully guided me over the rough places; and grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her untiring efforts in our behalf, and for her unselfishness, courage, and consecration in revealing this demonstrable truth.
