Truth God's Remedy

WE may well pause to be grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for the revealed truth she has given us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." A passage (pp. 142, 143) is of inestimable value to Christian Scientists. It is, "Truth is God's remedy for error of every kind."

In our experience as Christian Scientists we learn the utter futility of turning to material aid for relief from seeming bodily ailments. Christian Science teaches that a drug, being a form of nonintelligent matter, applied to a human body, another form of matter, could bring no relief from illness, for the seeming cause of the disorder is mental, and hence right ideas are required for healing. We know that the recognition of the presence of divine Mind is requisite to correct errors of belief.

Yet, however clearly students of Christian Science may see the application of the truth to such a circumstance, perhaps they allow themselves to be mesmerized by the thought that money, as matter, can be applied to solve a problem of supply, of home, clothing, food, and business—and thereby the situation be healed. No form of matter has intelligence to heal any situation. The presence and operation of right ideas in human consciousness, correcting and dissipating false beliefs, is the true healing for any problem. Too soon we cannot turn from the false sense of money as a remedial agent to grasp the meaning of the statement quoted above, "Truth is God's remedy for error of every kind."
