Filling the Right Scale

WE have surely all played keeping shop and weighing things in a pair of scales, and we know that when we put something into one scale and nothing into the other, the full scale goes down and causes the empty one to go up.

On page 192 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "Your influence for good depends upon the weight you throw into the right scale." So, if we would have our lives full of good and beautiful things, we must put every thought and word and deed on the side of infinite Mind, which is God.

When we play keeping shop we do not believe that it is a real shop, or that we are really shopkeepers. Any minute we can stop playing at keeping shop. But error would deceive us, and so it seems to come along pretending it is true and tempting us to believe that it is real. It will even seem to say to us: You are sick; or, You are unhappy; or, You are afraid. But we are really not sick or unhappy or afraid any more than we are really shopkeepers.
