The preparation of the ground for the new Publishing House is going forward steadily. Shoring up is being done at the extreme edges of the plot to be excavated. Instead of the former method of inserting wooden planks, heavy corrugated metal plates interlocking and almost water-tight, are driven down the requisite depth. A modern system of dewatering the ground is being installed. Formerly pumps were used to lift out the ground water which is usually encountered in constructing the basements of large structures, the workmen often wading around in mud. But the present system consists of sinking well points at six-foot intervals in lines surrounding the outer wall of the foundations-to-be. These well points are connected to two motor-driven pumps located on the pipe lines, so that the entire lot can be drained and kept free from water while the foundations are put in. When the preparation of the foundations for the eastern end is about completed, and the two structures on Massachusetts Avenue still in use are razed, sometime in February or March, the western half of the site will be excavated. There the nine-story tower will stand.

Because of an erroneous belief in some parts of the Field that the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons are compiled according to a set rule or formula, the following information will be of general interest.
