A Prayer

So may I love, that Love shall shine through me;
And shining thus, with clear and undimmed ray,
Shall reach another's human misery
And softly light its unillumined way.

So may I love, that in Love's secret place
My heart may dwell when human passions rise;
That I may see the Father's tender grace
Reflected, shining in my brother's eyes.

So may I love, that hill, and bird, and tree,
The unfolding flower, the steadfast stars above,
And every gentle thought shall seem to me
Reflected radiance of eternal Love.
