The Tribune of the 3d inst. contains an editorial with reference to regulations covering medicinal liquor privileges which were recently extended to healers other than physicians. You say you do not understand "why Christian Scientists were overlooked, for they practice healing too."

In this instance the Government would seem to be better posted than our friendly editor, as the officials no doubt are aware of the fact that Christian Scientists are practically a unit in denunciation of the slightest use of strong drink, and are consistent supporters of the Eighteenth Amendment. The use of intoxicants is not in accord with the teachings of Christian Science; therefore, as the Christian Science movement expands, the Eighteenth Amendment gains additional support.

Perhaps its position cannot be better set forth than by quoting the words of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, from her book "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 288, 289): "People will differ in their opinions as to means to promote the ends of temperance; that is, abstinence from intoxicating beverages. Whatever intoxicates a man, stultifies and causes him to degenerate physically and morally. Strong drink is unquestionably an evil, and evil cannot be used temperately: its slightest use is abuse; hence the only temperance is total abstinence."
