"The promises will be fulfilled"*

This is the song that gladdens all my day—
The promises will surely be fulfilled:
Think of the joy that echoes through those words!
Hope is awakened, every fear is stilled.
The faithful messengers of long ago
Spoke not in vain their healing words of cheer
Down the long years, to heal the heart's deep woe.
The ringing promises grow richly dear.

So can we know that we who now believe
Can break the chains that seem so strong and real,
Can do the works the gentle Master did,
The sadness of the world we too can heal.
One who believed has made the promise plain,
Has wakened gladness in the weary heart,
Has proved that Love can conquer hate and pain,
Has claimed for man a nobler, better part
That to live on in suffering and sin—
One who believed has brought the bright light in.
Hearts have been gladdened, fears and sorrows stilled:
Look up, and see the promises fulfilled!
