My earliest recollection of my childhood is that of being sick and cared for by physicians. This state of health continued through my growing years, and no permanent help was ever given me for what was later diagnosed as paralysis of the bowels, the word being given out that I could not live more than three months. Here Christian Science was brought to my attention through the healing of a sister of a very dear friend. I borrowed from this friend a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and was healed by the reading of the chapter on Prayer. This healing has been permanent. It took place more than twenty-six years ago, and since then Christian Science has been my only physician.
Shortly after my healing I attended my first lecture on Christian Science, and as I listened to this, and later to other lectures, there dawned upon my consciousness something of the true nature of God and His love for man; something of the real nature of man, the man of whom John wrote, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God." A new hope was awakened that I might prove the words of Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
During the intervening years I have had continuous proofs that Christian Science heals all manner of sickness and sin. Through the study and application of the writings of our revered Leader, I have been made free from much fear, anxiety, sorrow, and pain, and have attained a goodly measure of that "peace of God which passeth thought."
