"A Succourer of many"

Paul wrote to the Romans commending to their care "Phebe our sister, . . . that ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you;" and he added, "For she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also."

"A succourer of many"! May not this be said of parents all over the world who through long years of selfsacrifice, have toiled in the background in order to give their children a start in life beyond what they themselves enjoyed? It is fitting that in the midst of their own vivid enjoyments, and employments, the present generation should remember with practical affection those who wisely guarded and cherished them throughout their formative years.

And what can we adequately say of Mrs. Eddy? With but few at her side, she held aloft her revelation of absolute Truth in the face of the scorn, the menace, the dense indifference with which her early efforts were largely greeted. Truly she was, and through her writings will ever be, "a succourer of many."
