It is now ten years since I took up the study of Christian Science for physical healing. When all material means were exhausted and there seemed no more hope, I cried aloud to God in my distress, and He, "who healeth all thy diseases," heard my prayer, and it was answered. I asked that I might have Christian Science treatment, which was lovingly given. Then the battle between flesh and Spirit. error and Truth, began. This battle was a long but glorious one. Through the study of the Bible and also "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as with the help of practitioners and by striving to be patient and trusting in God, I was completely healed.
Later on a deep sorrow came into my life, by the passing on of a dear little grandson, which caused much bitterness and suffering in my consciousness. Christian Science was the rod and staff that comforted me. Then I was taken ill with a very severe case of gallstones, so diagnosed by two physicians. Again with the help of a practitioner I was absolutely healed by Christian Science.
The first healing mentioned, which I have stated was a long but glorious one, taught me in a great measure to know God. In our everyday life the problems that come up, of whatever nature they may be, are stepping-stones to a higher understanding; that is, if we are willing and obedient. We must adhere strictly to the one divine Mind. As Mrs. Eddy has stated in Science and Health (p. 23), "Faith, if it be mere belief, is as a pendulum swinging between nothing and something, having no fixity."
