While still a child I heard a great deal about a God of love and mercy, for I had a very devout mother. Later on, when I came to think for myself, I tried various religious denominations without finding any satisfaction in them; for they depicted God only as a judge and as One whom we must fear, while I yearned constantly for something more nearly perfect.

Then one day I heard of Christian Science. At first I was opposed to it, for I could not comprehend the spiritual nature of God and man. However, after a visit with a Christian Science practitioner, a gentle sense of Truth and Love filled my thought, and I began to get a true understanding of God and of Christ. I soon realized what a priceless treasure had come into my life, for only in the study of Christian Science could I find the God of love and mercy; and through this study my life has become a song of praise to God.

I should like to relate a healing which came to me through the understanding of Christian Science. I went down town to buy something, and suddenly, while I was purchasing the article, a nervous collapse came upon me. I was barely able to ask to be taken to a room where I could be alone, and for quite a while I had to support myself between two chairs, for I could neither stand nor sit. I was feeling very ill, when all at once it became quite clear to me that all space is filled with divine Love, and that I was safe in Him. I knew that nothing untoward could reach me under the protection of Love. After I had thus clung to the truth for a time, I let go of the chairs, and was able to go down the stairs unaided. I paid for my purchase and was able to go home without difficulty, to the great astonishment of those around me. Once there, however, the trouble returned, and I had to be put to bed. In the morning I made my way to a practitioner, and after she had declared the truth in regard to my condition I was able to go home without further difficulty. This healing is especially wonderful to me, for I had had this trouble for twenty years, and many physicians, among them the best specialists, had said that their skill could give me no aid.
