Achievement

The word "achieve," derived from the Latin ad and caput, "head," expresses much in little. In Christian Science this word is lifted out of the sense of purely material accomplishment or fulfillment of any task into the spiritual realm of the completion or achievement of God's plan for man. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."

In considering the word in this light, it is easy to ascertain why, in the various tasks upon which mankind is engaged, so few reach the desired goal of true achievement. People discuss the disappointment they have experienced in this direction or that, forgetting that striving, if based upon right motives, can never leave them where it found them. Disappointment is always a negative condition, one which unsettles those who entertain it and for the time being frustrates any further effort.

To desire to achieve, to bring to a right end, to express intelligence, initiative, perseverance, patience in overcoming obstacles, is in a measure to achieve, and to hew steppingstones in the rock of endeavor, leading to heights which our vision is not yet able to reach.
