I am filled with gratitude to God for Christian Science
I am filled with gratitude to God for Christian Science. Its teachings have meant health, peace, and joy to me, and I want to tell of some of the many healings I have received.
For twenty years before I heard of Christian Science I was in constant pain, with severe headaches, and with bowel, abdominal, and stomach trouble; in fact, nothing in my body seemed to work right. Different doctors treated me, but could not locate the trouble. In 1914 I was operated on for fibroid tumor, and part of the lower bowel had to be removed. I was in constant pain and misery, and was taking opiates to try to relieve the pain. In 1920 I noticed that the tumor had grown again, stopping the bowel action. I was told that I should have to be operated on again, and the sooner the better. Thinking of the little help I had received from the former operation, and the miserable time I had in order to move around, wearing an abdominal brace day and night and taking two kinds of medicine every night, I gave up the thought of doctors and medicine and asked God to help me.
In this state of mind I called on a neighbor and told her some of my trouble. I had no idea of being healed. I told her that I should like to get a little comfort out of the Bible to help me bear the pain, but that I could not understand the Bible, as for instance, the narrative about Jonah in the belly of the fish. My friend asked me if I had ever heard of Mary Baker Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the Bible. She told me that being in the belly of the fish might mean being in misery and torment without hope, and that on the third day Jonah saw light. My friend had no more than started talking when I, too, saw the light. I was shown the perfect pattern.
