Lights along the Shore

Along the coasts in nearly every part of the world there are located lighthouses to inform and to guide all approaching ships. Those who from a ship's deck have sighted the light of a lighthouse on a dark night know the welcome feeling of security it inspires and the comfort it conveys.

In our human experience we have great need of light to guide and direct us, and we are blessed with a light that never fails. The Psalmist has written, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Never need we fail of guidance if we are willing to be led by the light of the Word of God, good. People of nearly every nation and country now have this Word in the Bible translated into their native tongues. Like the lighthouses, it offers comfort and guidance. Its various truths and counsels stand out in the events of our daily life, and reveal the great light of Truth that is guiding the nations.

In our day Christian Science has been given to us by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, to interpret the Word, and to make it practical and demonstrable. Many centuries had passed during which the light of the Word was not made fully practical. The Word was not understood, and, because it was not understood, it was not loved and obeyed in its fuller meaning. In her inspired writings Mrs. Eddy has so clearly pointed out and identified the true spiritual light that we should be able always to recognize and be guided by it, as surely as the mariner discerns a lighthouse and gladly heeds its guidance.
