We often hear it said that Christian Science is good...
We often hear it said that Christian Science is good for nervous people but cannot heal incurable diseases. Mrs. Eddy tells us in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 390), "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought," and later, "'Agree to disagree' with approaching symptoms of chronic or acute disease, whether it is cancer, consumption, or smallpox." Over seven years ago I was stricken with what the medical profession calls cancer of the breast. I immediately asked for help in Christian Science, but the condition became more aggravated, although I read and studied constantly, trying to cooperate with the practitioner to the best of my understanding. One day, while studying, I began to analyze my thinking, trying to discover what was hindering my demonstration; and I soon realized that I had been hating a relative intensely for several years, and I knew that I should have to be healed of that hatred before I could expect to be healed of the physical inharmony. I immediately called the practitioner and told her this; and she lovingly pointed out to me that I must learn to love more and to see that relative, not as the erring woman whom I had been seeing, but as in reality God's perfect child, spiritual, incapable of expressing aught but the qualities of God. We worked along that line diligently and prayerfully; and in about two weeks I was completely healed, and there has been no recurrence of the condition since.
In the one hundred and third Psalm we read, "Bless the Lord, O my soul: ... who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." That does not say only certain diseases, but "all" our diseases. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for Christian Science and to Mary Baker Eddy, who, through her patient work and endless sacrifice, gave to mankind this demonstrable truth that does heal "all thy diseases." I shall never cease to be grateful to the dear practitioner, whose earnest, patient, and constant work enabled me not only to experience this physical healing but to prove that love does triumph over hate and that "Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it 'every whit whole'" (Science and Health, p. 371).—(Mrs.) Georgia Sundstrom Norling, Rockford, Illinois.
