The Pilgrim's Prayer

O thou almighty One, who by the hand
Of Moses led Thy flock from Egypt's land,
Though scattered in the dark and cloudy day,
The rifted clouds reveal the lighted way
That leads from bondage to the claims of sense,
To liberty in Thee, omnipotence!
The journey may be long and sense impede,
But Love provides for every human need.
The shadow fades when substance is divined,
And sought each day in all-inclusive Mind.
A table in the wilderness is spread
For all who hunger for the living bread;
And they who seek may sweet refreshment know
Where from the Rock the crystal waters flow.
But when the angry waves of fear roll in
From error's sea of darkness, death, and sin,
And Pharaoh's host is pressing hard behind,
No refuge, hope, or help from human kind,
Oh, lift the misty veil of sense that we
May find the Master's pathway through the sea,
And step by step press onward toward the shore
Where Truth triumphant reigns forevermore.
