I heard of Christian Science through a dear friend who was paralyzed for two years a half, and was healed in a very short time through Christian Science. At first I did not want to have anything to do with this teaching. I thought I could not give up my former religion, although I found but little comfort and satisfaction in it. I prayed that I might know God better; and divine Love showed me the way.
For many years I suffered from a complaint of the thyroid gland, and was constantly under medical treatment. It is true I was relieved somewhat, but not healed. In the summer of 1923 the symptoms appeared again in an alarming manner. My dear friend was visiting me at the time, and she read to me from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It had a soothing effect upon me, so that I went to sleep. Then, after I had read a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition) it became clear to me that only through Christian Science could I find healing. So I went to a practitioner, who lovingly helped me. Buoyantly and joyously I went home, for I felt that I had been in touch with Truth; and in about two weeks I was healed.
A year later I was taken with bronchial catarrh and began to work for myself; but when there was no improvement after four weeks, I again asked the dear practitioner for help, and was immediately relieved. Within three months I had several present treatments, and the last time I went to see her, she said I was healed; but I did not believe it. Afterwards, at the Wednesday evening service the following words from the Bible were read: "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." These words made a great impression on me, and I knew I was healed. Peace and joy entered my heart, for now I knew that I had found the Christ, Truth, in Christian Science. A chronic nervous stomach trouble also disappeared with this healing. Recently I was attacked with lumbago; I could not stand up and could hardly move a joint. I began to work as we are taught in Christian Science, and in an hour I was able to get up and by the afternoon was able to attend to my house and garden duties, whereas formerly I had often suffered for days.
