From a letter received from a doctor, it would appear that he has not read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Your other correspondent evidently accepts this doctor's erroneous conclusions as to the teachings of Christian Science; and so they join in protest against a subject of which they are misinformed.

Your correspondent asks, "What message of hope or help have Christian Scientists for the dissolute and depraved—those in the grip of sin, drunkenness, or vice?" In reply, I would say that through the teachings of Christian Science people in all walks of life are daily being regenerated and freed from these evils.

The doctor asks: "Did Christ go about healing the sick? And did he cast out devils?" The Bible says he did; and Christian Scientists are endeavoring to do the same through an understanding of the spiritual laws of which he was the master. This spiritual understanding reveals the unreal nature of material existence, and corrects erroneous conditions, as light dispels darkness, or as knowledge dissipates ignorance. Thus, what the doctor regards as the "hard facts of the world" yield to the enlightenment of revelation.
