In your issue of January 5 you published a report of a sermon in which a clergyman mentions Christian Science several times. His remarks would be interesting and important if they were true, but they show only a misapprehension of the basic facts of Christian Science. I would therefore appreciate space for a correction.

Christian Science is not to be classed with Unity, Mormonism, Russellism, spiritualism, or any other such ism. Christian Science is the truth about Truth, the truth about God; and it proves by demonstration that the Mind which Christ Jesus manifested has never ceased to act. It is operating here to-day as it did nineteen hundred years ago.

The clergyman quotes from II John 1:9: "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son." Christian Scientists not only accept this doctrine, but are proving in their lives that it is sound. Christian Science accepts God's word, "I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God;" that "God is a Spirit," and therefore His creation must be spiritual. Paul enumerates the fruits of Spirit as "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance;" and he emphasizes this by saying, "Against such there is no law." Christian Science does say that God is Principle, the divine Principle of the universe; that He is the source or origin of all that is real. The word "Principle" as used in Christian Science refers to Deity alone, and in this meaning is always spelled with a capital "P."
