When I first entered a Christian Science Reading Room...

When I first entered a Christian Science Reading Room in London, eleven years ago, I little realized the freedom that step would bring me—freedom from the anxieties connected with earning a living, through the understanding that God, in whom "we live, and move, and have our being," as Paul states, has provided all good for us. I have experienced freedom from nervous troubles and quinsy sore throat, which had always incapacitated me in my work as a children's nurse in England, Germany, and Norway. In all three countries I had spent many weeks in hospitals and sanatoriums each year. Since 1918 I have never had the above-mentioned complaints or taken a drop of medicine, as I have learned that the best and only medicine is Mind, a term which Mrs. Eddy gives as one synonym of God, on page 465 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

Instead of being of little help to mothers, I have been able to take full charge of children, particularly in one case of a child needing special care. My work has expanded into wider channels as I have had the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and the joy of class instruction.

A healing I had five years ago under Christian Science treatment helped me to understand better the words on page 495 of Science and Health, namely, that the "power of Truth ... sets the captive free physically and morally." I was reading aloud several hours daily when an attack of nasal catarrh seemed to interrupt my work; but as soon as I began to substitute thoughts of love and gratitude for resentment and criticism, I was healed; and I have had no return of the condition.
