Christian Science was discovered by Mary Baker Eddy...

Bergens Tidende

Christian Science was discovered by Mary Baker Eddy in 1866. She had been seriously injured by an accident, and during the reading of one of the records of healing in the Gospels she received a healing.

Mrs. Eddy had for many years been an invalid, and in her search for health had tried all well-known methods of healing. During this time she had more and more come to the conviction that all effects could be traced to a mental cause.

She then devoted her life to finding out how she had been healed, that she might help others and teach them to help themselves. She writes of this in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 109), "I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration." After several years of thorough study of the Bible and practical tests of her system, during which she performed many remarkable healings, she published the above-mentioned textbook, which contains a complete statement of Christian Science.
