I could not live without Christian Science
I could not live without Christian Science. To write all that it has done for me would fill a large book. Being handicapped from babyhood with what the physicians called a congenital stricture and prolapsis of the intestines, I became bedfast when thirteen years of age. During the next eight years I was under practically every known material method of treatment, including three major operations. Complications of heart trouble, neuritis, bladder trouble, autointoxication, insomnia, and nervous exhaustion, combined with the intestinal trouble, caused years of suffering, and most of the time I was under the influence of opiates. I had been treated by twenty-two doctors when my parents were finally informed that they might as well take me home to die. I was at that time in a hospital waiting to undergo a fourth operation, which the surgeons were honest enough to say I might not survive.
A year or so before this I had read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and had been under Christian Science treatment, but my parents and relatives being bitterly opposed to it I had gone back to medical care. The seed, however, which had been sown had taken root and continued to grow. I held to what I remembered the best way I could until I could get a message to the Christian Science practitioner who had treated me. Within one month after this I was up and walking, and everyone declared it was a miracle; but they would not give Christian Science the credit.
The following years, since taking my stand alone for Christian Science, I have not always found smooth or easy, but with the wonderful progress from sense to Soul, darkness to light, I cannot tell the joy and peace and freedom that I am gaining. I have had many physical healings, demonstrations over lack, and wonderful protection. I am grateful that other members of my family have accepted this truth.
