Christian Science and Couéism are not similar, as your readers would probably infer from your mention of these subjects in the editorial "Unsuspected Disease," in the issue of your paper of August 14. Christian Science has its origin in the immortal divine Mind, which is God, good, and heals through the operation of this divine Mind. Couéism, on the other hand, has its origin in the mortal or carnal mind as Paul puts it, which he further declares is "enmity against God." Therefore Christian Science and Couéism are opposite mental methods.

Christian Science teaches that the carnal or mortal mind is the cause of all the ills of the flesh, and that the divine Mind alone heals sickness and sin. These ills of the flesh are caused by the wrong thinking of the carnal mind, and they can be and are healed only by right thoughts from the divine Mind, which is God. As Christ Jesus said in referring to the devil or carnal mind, it "is a liar, and the father of it." Christian Science healing comes about as right or true thoughts of God, man, and the universe, displace the wrong or erroneous thoughts of the so-called carnal or mortal mind.
