Home

A dictionary defines "home" as "a place or abode of affections, peace, and rest." Home is also a place of safety, a shelter from storms. The beautiful promise of Jesus, "In my Father's house are many mansions: ... I go to prepare a place for you," has heartened many a weary, homesick wanderer, causing him to look longingly and hopefully for peace and rest. But until they have a glimpse of what Christian Science teaches, most people believe that the heavenly mansions can be reached only after what is termed death.

Inborn in every individual is the desire for a home. Even those who seem to be impelled to move from place to place are unconsciously responding to the desire to find the real home. The problem of finding this real home is entirely mental, and can be solved in no other way than by gaining the true, spiritual concept of home. Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you;" and his word plainly shows us the way home.

Home is the consciousness of Love. In that true consciousness only ideas of order, harmony, beauty, tenderness, and loving activity can abide. The consciousness filled with love for God is unselfish, and unselfishness abides in happiness. An unselfish person cannot be unhappy, because unselfed love brings thought into direct at-one-ment with divine power. Unhappiness is a phase of selfishness, which asks much and gives little. Unselfishness asks little and gives much.
