Business

Christian Science has brought to the business world an unfailing panacea for its ills, its woes, its rivalries, and its selfishness. The master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus, outlined this panacea and pointed the way to its perfect application when he said, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." Jesus was the greatest, the most practical man of his or of any age. He overcame lack; he nullified beliefs of time and distance; he directed his disciples to cast their nets on the right side, and their nets were filled; he healed disease in its worst forms; he overcame death. How? The secret of his method is indicated in his simple statement, "I go unto my Father." In hours of silent communion with his Father he learned how to prove the ever present law of right activity, God's law, expressed through His reflection. He knew that God's universe is complete, perfect, and unchanged in any particular from God's original plan. Even as the Father sees, so Jesus saw perfection expressed, and made manifest to outward vision in the measure in which thought remained true to the spiritual vision. He worked swiftly and surely because he was ever conscious of perfection, expressed as the natural outcome of God's law of right activity.

Through Christian Science we are enabled to follow Jesus' splendid example in our daily business. When we begin our day with conscious communion with God and study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, we are equipping ourselves to go forth and do as Mrs. Eddy admonishes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 570), when she says: "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." Into our business day we bring a new quality, a joyous sense of our Father's presence and power, a calm trust that "all things work together for good to them that love God." And what does it mean to love God? It means to understand Him, to trust Him, to follow His guidance, to listen to His direction, to reflect Love so that others will be impelled to seek an acquaintance with Him. It means to bring honesty into all our business relations, to live in accordance with the Golden Rule; to know there is no lack in a universe overflowing with an abundance of good; to express in each word and deed the desire to serve God.

On page 550 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "The true sense of being and its eternal perfection should appear now, even as it will hereafter." Business is an integral part of human experience. In commerce, industry, finance, we should seek to bring out the truth about business; and as we are true to the high standards of Christianity, better conditions will appear.
