The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
New Bern, North Carolina (First Church).
Lecturer: Richard J. Davis; introduced by Miss Elsa W. Smith, who said:—
Fifteen years ago, when I was a university student, I gained my first knowledge of Christian Science and saw proof of its healing power by seeing my roommate quickly recover from influenza under Christian Science treatment. Four years later I first attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and I was so impressed with the earnestness of the congregation and the many testimonies of healing I heard that I was inspired to investigate this religion for myself. Knowing the truth about man, that he exists in the image and likeness of God, frees man from sin and disease. I myself have had many opportunities to prove the efficacy of the healing power of Christian Science. Torn ligaments and a dislocated kneecap, the result of an accident, were entirely healed in little more than two weeks. No bandages and no material remedies were used in any way. A chronic condition of tonsillitis which I had had since childhood has been completely overcome. About four years ago I had a very beautiful healing of pleurisy. Besides these I have had countless other healings both mental and physical. Words fail to express my gratitude.
