I took up the study of Christian Science about ten years...
I took up the study of Christian Science about ten years ago in search of relief from an internal displacement, spinal trouble, extreme nervousness, and pain. I had been taking osteopathic treatment for three years without any lasting benefit; in fact, the last year I seemed to be getting worse instead of better, in spite of having two or three treatments each week. I had heard a great deal about Christian Science from my employer, whose wife had experienced a beautiful healing in Christian Science; and I now know that the conversations which took place between myself and this kind friend prepared my thought for the acceptance of the truth and healed me of any sense of prejudice. A little later, a lady at a mountain resort spoke to me of her healing through Christian Science of practically the same physical condition that I was suffering from. I was much impressed, and my husband and I agreed that when we returned home I should try this system of treatment, as we felt confident that if others were healed I could be too. Therefore, upon returning to the city, I looked up the practitioner whose name had been given me, and she lovingly began work for me, with the result that a wonderful sense of upliftment and freedom from pain was experienced almost immediately. In six weeks I realized that the healing had taken place; and in the proportion that I have been "absent from the body, and . . . present with the Lord" this healing has remained permanent.
Through my own realization that man's discernment is spiritual and perfect and not dependent upon matter I was enabled to lay aside glasses that I had worn for ten years for astigmatism, a constant tendency to take cold has been overcome, and God's protecting power has been experienced many times. A greater sense of peace and harmony is daily being demonstrated.
I am increasingly grateful to God for His wonderful kindness to His children; to Mary Baker Eddy for her revelation of the truth to this age; and to the practitioners and friends who have lovingly helped me to gain an understanding of this truth. I am also grateful for the privilege of serving as soloist in a Christian Science church. Only those who have served in this capacity can appreciate the blessing that comes from such service. I am truly grateful for Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Etta Gould Malmberg, San Diego, California.
