The Perfect Model
Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, throughout her writings shows us that in many ways we are constantly forming mental pictures, and that, whether we know it or not, these are being externalized in experience either as God's reflection, reality and harmony, or else as so-called mortal mind's mirage. Christian Science teaches us that we can choose, each for himself, which mental picture shall be accepted by us, the real and spiritual or the unreal, material, fleeting, changing, and inharmonious. Through spiritual sense we can discern in ever increasing measure spiritual reality, the seeing of which brings that peace which the world cannot give.
Christ Jesus said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Does not this mean that all who may be holding to the wrong mental picture of materiality, with all its falsity, can rise above their ignorant beliefs, and through Christ, Truth, behold the spiritual reality of man's relationship to God, the Father-Mother, thus realizing true peace? Surely, these pure ideas coming to us as we obey the Way-shower's command, are God's angels driving away the mist which would make us believe that there is a real material universe.
Each Christian Scientist has his work before him: he must and can do his part in destroying sin, disease, and death. This he does, step by step, as he exchanges false concepts for the true ideas of Soul. Material sense pictures are all unreal. Their supposed origin, so-called mortal mind, can never express the truth; so, no material picture or image is true or real. To prove this we can always turn to Truth, God; and as we cling to the real, the unreal fades away and the real appears brighter and brighter.
